On-Call Stormwater and Drainage Services
City of Norman, Oklahoma
Meshek has served the City of Norman as its on-call stormwater and drainage consultant since 2015. Some of the projects we have managed for the City include:
Creston Way Drainage Improvements. In a previous effort to mitigate flooding on Creston Way, the City had paved a small channel between the two most affected homes. By the time the City partnered with Meshek in 2017, the existing paved channel could no longer accommodate the volume of water rushing to the area. The Meshek team designed a higher capacity drainage system that eliminated the need for a paved ditch. The new design adds four inlets that move overland water underground into the sewer system which directs it to a channel downstream. To minimize costs, the design took advantage of existing easements.
Vineyard Drainage Improvements. In 2015, Meshek performed a preliminary analysis of the flooding problems in the Vineyard subdivision. This included a review of the previous drainage reports and studies. In 2017, the City requested Meshek perform additional analysis and produce final construction plans for drainage improvements to the area.
36th Avenue and Tecumseh Road Channel Improvements. The team performed a detailed hydraulic study of an Unnamed Tributary of Little River just west of 36th Avenue NW. The study was used to develop alternatives to alleviate existing drainage concerns and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
Merkle Creek Stream Restoration. Meshek provided a detailed hydraulic study of Merkle Creek — a 1,350-acre study area. The project also included a hydraulic analysis of the storm sewer system at the intersection of North Sherry Avenue and Denison Drive. The study included options for addressing bank erosion on Merkle Creek and alternatives for extending the storm sewers.
