Roadway Engineering and Program Management
City of Skiatook, Oklahoma
In 2014, the City of Skiatook recognized its roadways needed attention, but did not know where or how to begin. The City partnered with Meshek who helped review the entirety of the city and identified 23 roadways that required improvements. The Meshek design team produced a conceptual report identifying the scope and budget for each project, which was used to propose and pass an $8 million bond package for roadway improvements.
Once the bond was passed, Meshek again partnered with the City for the next three years to design all 23 roadway projects, which spanned a broad variety of projects and included both arterial and residential streets. Throughout the design process, Meshek helped manage the City’s budget, saving approximately 10% of the available bond money. This savings was used to fund three additional projects.
Meshek designed each project, helped bid and award the project, and are on-call and available throughout construction. Today, 20 projects have been constructed, three are under construction, and the additional three projects from the remainder of the funds are being designed.
Throughout our partnership with the City of Skiatook, our design team has developed strong relationships with a number of City staff. We have conducted public meetings, met and coordinated with residents, and presented at City Council meetings to provide the citizens of Skiatook confidence that their hard-earned dollars are being used efficiently and effectively. Together, we have cultivated a communicative, trusting partnership, which helps the entirety of the program run more efficiently.
